Aerojet Rocketdyne's InThinking Network's
Ongoing Discussion Conference Calls
Background

Now in our seventeenth year of operation, the aim of our "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an improved appreciation of "thinking together about thinking," which we refer to as InThinking, within an emerging thinking network that is developing inside Aerojet Rocketdyne and beyond.

This is a toll-free conference call within the United States and Canada. International participants are welcome to join in as well, provided they do so at their own expense for the conference call.

Conference call information, both toll-free and for-fee, is provided upon completing the participant survey for each month's conference calls. Link here for instructions on how to use Skype for toll-free participation. Link here to find your time zone in comparison to the Pacific Time zone, where the calls are hosted every month from 12-2pm.

Ongoing Discussions and Thinking Together About... Webinars
The Ongoing Discussion (OD) emerged in January 2000 from a small group meeting within Aerojet Rocketdyne (then a division of Boeing) to review an article, the first "Thought Piece." The meeting went well and we saw value in continuing. With colleagues within Boeing at other sites, we moved from a physical gathering to a conference call. As we opened our doors for in-house seminars to more and more ”Members of the Community,” we included them as well. All along, the focus to foster a conversation, was not a presentation, using voice-only communication. Nice and easy. Only once in 16 years of OD sessions did we use the internet to present material to the participants who had internet access. After that, with partial access to the material he shared for a specific question, we went back to the model of voice only, with the Thought Piece to contain all visuals. We don’t mind sending additional printed material afterwards, but didn’t want to interrupt a call with the need for participants to need internet access.

As for the Thinking Together About... (TTA) webinars, we saw value in presenting highly visual material in a presentation format, which is missed in the OD sessions. As a result, the TTA sessions are designed to be “a presentation and not a conversation,” yet include time for Questions & Answers for inquiry. As for the roles of the OD and TTA sessions, both have the aim of sharing ideas with thought leaders who endeavor to improve teamwork in their respective lives.

Participant Size: Unlimited

Prerequisite: None

Length:
1 hour sessions, 4 per month

Target Audience: Anyone who is concerned about improving the effectiveness of individuals and organizations will gain from these conference calls.

Business Issue: Provide an opportunity for sharing insights on thinking patterns with colleagues both inside and outside of Aerojet Rocketdyne.

Description: This is a toll-free conference call within the United States and Canada, initiated in February 2012. International participants often join in as well. Conference call information, both toll-free and for-fee, is provided upon completing the participant survey for each month's conference calls.

Objective: The aim of these sessions is to continue to foster an appreciation of InThinking within an emerging InThinking Network that is developing inside Aerojet Rocketdyne and beyond.

Fee: None.

History: As always, there is no relentless root cause to explain anything, such as the ideas behind this new webinar offering. There are, however, common causes present always and a special cause on occasion. From death to birth, singular causes offer insufficient explanations when attempting to move well beyond what Dr. Deming referred to as "the prevailing system of management."
