Aim and Stats
Now in our ninth year of operation, the aim of the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking, within an emerging thinking network that is developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with additional "thinking" opportunities for 2008 can be found in this announcement.
OD Stats
For an update on OD statistics, this month's invitation is going out to 3500+ partners in the U.S., as well as fellow inthinking partners in Australia, Austria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Dubai, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the U.K. Taken together, these individuals represent over 600 organizations in this list of nations, from elementary schools and senior high schools to colleges and universities, from one-person consulting firms to United Technologies, GM, IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips Electronics. Among this list of invitees, participation in last month's OD conference call with Sheldon Rovin included 39 partners from across the US (101 have joined in so far in 2008, 342 joined in for all of 2007, 444 partners joined us throughout 2006, and 402 thinking partners joined us throughout 2005).

Good morning from the west coast home of Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne, located in Canoga Park, California, on the western end of the San Fernando Valley in greater Los Angeles.
With Daylight Savings Time (an idea owed to Ben Franklin, although times have changed and savings are being challenged today) upon us now and the Ides of March coming on Saturday, it's time to come together for a few hours of "thinking together." This month's Ongoing Discussion is scheduled for Wednesday, March 19th and Thursday, March 20th, from 12-2pm Pacific Time on both days. Information on this month's Thought Leaders, Bob Dickman and Richard Maxwell, and their topic - The Elements of Persuasion, follows below.
Click here for the PARTICIPANT SURVEY for this month's OD and to receive the conference call information once you complete the survey.
(Click here if you are having trouble reading this announcement.)
For those who missed last month's "OD" sessions with Sheldon Rovin, or those who joined in and would like to revisit the conversation, we'll soon (not yet ;-(( ) have the four 1-hour calls posted as mp3 files.
Cheers... Bill Bellows

Thought Leaders - Bob Dickman and Richard Maxwell
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's (PWR) Enterprise Thinking Network welcomes Bob Dickman (left) and Richard Maxwell (right) to lead our third Ongoing Discussion of 2008 (and our 99th since January 2000) on March 19th and 20th. We first welcomed them as Thought Leaders in May 2005.
"Every great leader is a great storyteller," says Harvard University psychologist Howard Gardner. This sentiment is supported by Bob and Richard, co-authors of The Elements of Persuasion. Their Thought Piece is the first chapter of their lively and useful book. You may also have read, or would like to read, Bob's article a few years ago in "Reflections", the journal of the Society for Organizational Learning (SoL), in which he described then four (now, five, with Awareness added) components of successful stories: Passion, Hero, Antagonist, and Transformation. And some of you may have participated in Bob's Pegasus Systems Thinking in Action workshop a couple of years ago in Boston, which he opened with a wonderful story involving mothers, vodka, revolution, and negotiation. Perhaps we can hope that he'll share this story with us next week, as it was a rich example of the five components.
Richard Maxwell has had a successful career as a screen and television writer, and has produced a number of feature films, working for every major Hollywood studio and many independent producers. Bob is an executive coach who teaches "narrative strategies" as they relate to corporate communication, product design, and branding. He was an actor (Bull Durham) and was for some time a monk at a Zen monastery in Japan. Richard and Bob are friends of the In2:InThinking Network and will present together at the 2008 Forum next month (have you registered yet?).
What are some questions we might bring to this conversation with Richard and Bob? What kind of stories are heard in Red Pen Companies? As a Red Pen Company moves along the continuum, how might the stories change? How might you change the stories to encourage movement along the continuum? What are some (brief) examples of stories that have served you and your customer, colleagues, clients? How does story fit into our daily work? What stories do we tell ourselves? What stories do we long to hear?
Please note that this Ongoing Discussion takes place on a Wednesday and Thursday next week. We hope you can join us for an hour, or more.
Contact Bob and/or Richard by email with any questions you would like to share with them in preparation for the OD sessions.
