Aim and Stats
Now in our eighth year of operation, the aim of the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking, within an emerging thinking network that is developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with additional "thinking" opportunities for 2007 can be found in this announcement.
OD Stats
For an update on OD statistics, this month's invitation is going out to 3500+ partners in the U.S., as well as fellow inthinking partners in Australia, Austria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Dubai, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the U.K.. Taken together, these individuals represent over 600 organizations in this list of nations, from elementary schools and senior high schools to colleges and universities, from one-person consulting firms to United Technologies, GM, IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips Electronics. Thought Leader - Steve Haines
Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's Enterprise Thinking Network welcomes Steve Haines to lead our last Ongoing Discussion of 2007 (and our 96th since January 2000) on December 13th and 14th.
As we approach the winter solstice in the northern hemisphere, many of us find ourselves making time for reflection and critical examination of the year just past. Of course, reflection is a valuable practice and we are wise to slow down from time to time to consider where we've been and to examine our intentions for the future. At the same time, it's also important to maintain our energy at a high level and to be alert to what is actually or may soon be emerging in our lives and in the world. Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's Enterprise Thinking Network is therefore pleased to introduce and welcome a new member to our thinking network efforts, Stephen Haines, as our December Thought Leader. Steve is a CEO, entrepreneur, and strategist. He's a facilitator and systems thinker and founder of the Haines Centre for Strategic Management, where he serves as CEO. The Centre has global partners and offices in over 20 countries. Steve is also a distinguished author and is internationally recognized as a leader in Strategic Management, powered by Systems Thinking and The Systems Thinking Approach®.
Steve has offered two Thought Pieces for your consideration this month - Systems Thinking: The Winning Formula and Becoming a Strategic Thinker on a Daily Basis. In his work, he brings together the practice of strategic thinking and the principles of systems thinking. These Thought Pieces present a vigorous synthesis of several different ways of thinking, what we in our network might call a system of thinking. As you familiarize yourself with this synthesis and the implications for businesses and other organizations, take the perspective of an InThinker;
- What does strategic thinking mean in a Red Pen Company (or organization)?
- To what extent might a Red Pen Company utilize systems thinking?
- Is systems thinking essential to become a Blue Pen Company?
- Is systems thinking exactly what we need all the time? That is, does one size fit all?
- What does systems thinking mean to you, in your professional context?
- What is the difference between systems thinking and a thinking system?
We anticipate an energetic and provocative conversation this month. Let's finish 2007 with spirit and good will, and high expectations for 2008.
Steve has an M.S.A. in Organization Behavior with a minor in financial management from George Washington University. He has also completed his course work requirements and dissertation for an Ed.D. in Management. He has over 30 years of executive experience leading planning, leadership, and change efforts in the U.S. and globally. Steve is a U.S. Naval Academy engineering graduate with the "Legendary Leadership Class of 1968". He flew Navy jets and was a shipboard officer in the U.S. Navy as well. He was also Executive Vice President at Imperial Corporation of America, Senior Vice President of Freddie Mac, and a member of eight top management teams in his career. He appears frequently as a keynote speaker and is the author of over 16 books.
Contact Steve Haines by email with feedback on his Thought Pieces.
