Aim and Stats

Now in our eighth year of operation, the aim of the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking, within an emerging thinking network that is developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with additional "thinking" opportunities for 2007 can be found in this announcement.

OD Stats

For an update on OD statistics, this month's invitation is going out to 3614 partners in the U.S., as well as fellow inthinking partners in Australia, Austria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Dubai, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, and the U.K.. Taken together, these individuals represent over 600 organizations in this list of nations, from elementary schools and senior high schools to colleges and universities, from one-person consulting firms to United Technologies, GM, IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips Electronics. Among this list of invitees, participation in last month's OD conference call with
John Pourdehnad included 35 partners from across the US and England as well (158 have joined us so far in 4 sessions in 2007, 444 partners joined us throughout 2006, 402 thinking partners joined us throughout 2005).

Thought Leader - Chris Soderquist

Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's Enterprise Thinking Network welcomes Chris Soderquist as our fifth Thought Leader for 2007 on May 24th and 25th.   Chris is the founder and President of Pontifex Consulting, an organization committed to helping individuals, teams, and organizations in building their capacity to develop strategic solutions to complex issues. He uses his extensive experience in Systems Thinking/System Dynamics, group facilitation, communication skill development, and statistical/process analysis-integrating the "hard stuff" and the "soft stuff"-to facilitate the development of solutions that are effective and actionable.

"Integral Leadership: Guiding Organizations by Applying Integral Theory" is the title of Chris's Thought Piece. It is an application of Integral Theory to organizational dynamics. One of the titles in Ken Wilber's anthology (Ken is the thought leader in Integral Theory) is called A Theory of Everything - which if you think about it, means it's probably more than a Big Hairy Audacious Goal to try to present much of the subject in a 20-page thought piece. And we are really pleased to share the results of Chris's efforts. With individuals like Warren Bennis, Al Gore, and Bill Clinton talking about Integral Theory and how it may be the approach we need to transition through these current times, we agreed with Chris that it would be worthwhile - no matter how BHAG-ish - to present his thoughts and to possible stimulated a lifelong dialogue and exploration to how we might all apply it. Our guess is that this conversation will send many of us off in a new learning direction for a while.

So, Chris's Thought Piece presents what he considers the essence of how Integral Theory is relevant to those of us living and working in the realms of organizational development and leadership. Much (much!) more is waiting to be fleshed out as practitioners begin to practice and learn from the application of Integral Theory in organizations. We urge you to spend some time with his essay before the call, and especially to have a copy with you during the call so that you can refer to the figures during the conversation.

Chris is on the curriculum development team for Integral University's Business and Leadership Center, and delivered a session on Integral System Dynamics at the Integral Sustainability Seminar. He is a contributing author to The Change Handbook (Berrett-Koehler, 1999) and has published several features in The Systems Thinker. Chris has facilitated two webinar series for isee systems (developers of the system dynamics software iThink and STELLA) to help their clients build more effective "systems models" for organizational improvement. For over 15 years, he has worked with Fortune 1000 companies, international development organizations, national and state government organizations, and communities to help them better achieve the future they desire.
