Aim and Stats

Aim

Now in our seventh year of operation, the aim of the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking, within an emerging thinking network that is developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with additional "thinking" opportunities for 2006 can be found in this announcement.

OD Stats

For an update on OD statistics, last month's invitation was sent to 3302 inthinking partners. With the latest updates to our mailing list, this month's invitation is going out to 3384 partners in the U.S., as well as fellow inthinking partners in Australia, Austria, Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, China, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K.. Taken together, these individuals represent over 440 organizations in this list of nations, from elementary schools and senior high schools to colleges and universities, from one-person consulting firms to United Technologies, GM, IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips Electronics. Among this list of invitees, participation in last month’s OD conference call with Sadruddin Boga included 30 partners from across the US and England as well. Added to 327 partners for our sessions through September, 357 partners have joined in so far this year (402 thinking partners joined us throughout 2005). Yes, the diffusion process continuuues...

In2:IN

Good morning from Canoga Park, California, home of United Technologies' Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne. With the passing of International Moment of Frustration Scream Day on October 12th and the coming of Halloween, it's time to come together for a few hours of "thinking together." This month’s Ongoing Discussion is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th and Thursday, October 19th, from 12-2pm Pacific Time on both days.

  • October 2006 Ongoing Discussion – Achieving Quality, Productivity, and Competitive Position Using Robust Designs
  • Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne's Enterprise Thinking Network joins with the In2:InThinking Network in welcoming Dr. Madhave Phadke to the long list of distinguished Thought Leaders contributing to our monthly Ongoing Discussion teleconferences. This month we are especially excited to present an expert on “Taguchi thinking,” a topic not previously offered via the Ongoing Discussion.

Dr. Phadke's Thought Piece for our discussion (Introduction to Robust Design) is posted on his website.

Madhav S. Phadke received a B. Tech. (1969) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, M.S. (1971) degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Sciences from the University of Rochester, and M.S. (1972) degree in Statistics and Ph.D. (1973) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin- Madison. He is an ASQ Fellow, and a member of ASME, ASA, and IEEE.

Dr. Phadke pioneered the application and development of the Taguchi Method / Robust Design method in USA and is a recipient of the Taguchi Award in 1985. He is the author of the first engineering textbook in English on Taguchi Method, Quality Engineering Using Robust Design, published by Prentice Hall in 1989.

Dr. Phadke is the President of Phadke Associates, Inc., a company specializing in quality technology deployment. He offers consultation and training in Robust Design, economic production/operation quality system (EPOQSTM), on-line quality control, Robust TestingTM and other methods of quality and productivity improvement.

In 1989, 1990, and again in 1993 Dr. Phadke offered a highly successful course in Taguchi Method via satellite through NTU. He has co-developed a course on Commercial Systems Engineering that can radically reduce cycle time. He has published numerous papers in the fields of off-line quality control, Taguchi Method, Kalman filtering, time series analysis, system identification and air pollution modeling. Professional societies and major universities frequently seek him as a speaker or lecturer.
