Aim and Stats
Aim
Now in our seventh year of
operation, the aim of
the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an
appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking,
within an emerging thinking network that is
developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and
beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with
additional "thinking" opportunities for 2006 can be
found in this announcement.
OD Stats
For an update on OD
statistics, last month's invitation was sent to 3229
inthinking partners. With the latest cleaning of
the mailing list, this month's invitation is going
out to 3270 partners in the U.S., as well as fellow
inthinking partners in Australia, Austria,
Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France,
Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya,
Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Singapore,
Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden,
Switzerland, and the U.K.. Taken together, these
individuals represent over 440 organizations in this
list of nations, from elementary schools and senior
high schools to colleges and universities, from
one-person consulting firms to United Technologies,
IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips
Electronics. Among this list of invitees,
participation in last month’s conference call with
Ron Schultz included 29 partners from
across the US and England as well. Added to 261
partners for our sessions through June, 290 partners
have joined in so far this year (402 thinking
partners joined us throughout 2005). Yes, the
diffusion process continuuues...

August 2006 Ongoing Discussion – Anger Management and Corporate Peacemaking |
|
Anna Maravelas is a corporate peacemaker, author of
How to Reduce Workplace Conflict and Stress (Career
Press, 2005) and founder of Thera Rising
in St. Paul, Minnesota.
Anna has improved productivity and profits, resolved
conflict and restored trust in client organizations
for more than 20 years. Pratt & Whitney
Rocketdyne’s Enterprise Thinking Network is pleased
to introduce Anna to the Ongoing Discussion
participants as our Thought Leader for August 2006.
She is the first “corporate peacemaker” to be
featured on our monthly teleconference.
Anna is internationally recognized for her ability
to transform negative cultures into climates of
respect, fiscal responsibility and pride. She has a
graduate degree in psychology with additional
training in systems thinking and process mapping.
Anna studied conflict resolution at Harvard Law
School’s Negotiation Project. Her groundbreaking
strategies have appeared in The New York Times,
Forbes, The American Bar Association Journal,
Harvard Management Update, O: The Oprah Magazine,
Franchise Times, and Healthcare Risk Management.
Most recently, Anna is quoted in this recent daily
newsletter from Forbes magazine -
Business Basics - Can't We All Just Get Along?
As you read her Thought Piece, you'll see that
Anna’s unique insights, unforgettable stories, humor
and warmth results in a delightful ability to convey
profound
insights in an entertaining and moving manner.
Anna’s Thought Piece for the discussion includes two
opening chapters from her book.
The following is a quote from Chapter 3,
Curiosity Makes You Smart, Sexy and Successful: The
Most Important Habit You Bring to the Table;
“There are many reasons to become skilled at
creating feelings of appreciation, altruistic
behavior and reflective reactions to frustration.
The outcomes of your responses to frustration
accumulate over your lifetime. Your reactions have
an enormous impact on your mood and the viability of
your relationships. They not only affect your
success at work but also the quality of personal
life and whether or not individuals are available to
support you during a personal or professional
crisis. In combination, these factors are a
significant asset, or a serious impediment, to your
career.”
Here are some questions to ponder before the
teleconference:
- How might appreciation be expressed differently
in a Red Pen company compared to a Blue Pen
company?
- Would altruistic behavior be more or less
apparent in either type of company? What is your
thinking?
- What might be some differences in how crises are
handled along the Red-Blue continuum?
- How might reflective practice initially take
root in a Red Pen company? Would you expect people
in a Blue Pen company to value and practice
reflection? Why? How is such a practice learned?

reconnect with Anna after the OD sessions, you are
