Aim and Stats
Aim
Now in our seventh year of
operation, the aim of
the "OD" sessions is to continue to foster an
appreciation of Enterprise Thinking, as well as inthinking,
within an emerging thinking network that is
developing inside Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne and
beyond. Dates for future "OD" sessions along with
additional "thinking" opportunities for 2006 can be
found in this announcement.
OD Stats
For an update on OD
statistics, last month's invitation was sent to 3234
inthinking partners. With the latest cleaning of
the mailing list, this month's invitation is going
out to 3229 partners in the U.S., as well as fellow
inthinking partners in Australia, Austria,
Bosnia-Hercegovina, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France,
Germany, India, Iran, Ireland, Japan, Kenya,
Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Romania, Singapore,
Slovakia, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden,
Switzerland, and the U.K.. Taken together, these
individuals represent over 440 organizations in this
list of nations, from elementary schools and senior
high schools to colleges and universities, from
one-person consulting firms to United Technologies,
IBM, General Electric, NASA, and Philips
Electronics. Among this list of invitees,
participation in last month?s conference call with
Clare Crawford-Mason included 33 partners from
across the US and England as well. Added to 228
partners for our sessions through May, 261 partners
have joined in so far this year (402 thinking
partners joined us throughout 2005). Yes, the
diffusion process continuuues...

July2006 Ongoing Discussion ? Adjacent Opportunities in Service (for corporate fellowship service programs) |
|
The In2:InThinking Network is pleased to welcome Ron
Schultz back to the conversation in his capacity as
Founding Director of the Center for Social
Profit Leadership ? part of the Legacy
XXI Institute. When he last joined us as a
Thought Leader in January 2004, Ron was the founding
Executive Director of Volunteers of America
- Los Angeles' Social Entrepreneur Incubator,
established to identify and support social
entrepreneurs in the poorest of the poor communities
in Los Angeles. In this capacity, Mr. Schultz
developed the strategies and procedures for
selection, support and identification of social
entrepreneurs, which included the creation of a
format for continuing education, ongoing consulting,
and financial assistance.
The title of Ron's Thought
Piece is "Adjacent Opportunities in Service".
In brief, it is about "nudging" systems to produce
movement for change in the desired direction. His
example of how this works is an organization called
Building Blocks
International, led by Jennifer Anastasoff.
"Building Blocks International works with existing
corporate service fellowships, those programs begun
by corporations that offer four-week to full-year
opportunities for employees to take a sabbatical
from the corporation and apply their skills in
struggling communities around the world." Building
Blocks International has a goal of placing 5000
corporate service fellows by 2010. They already
have worked with 2300 fellows who are serving
communities around the world from Santiago, Chile to
Karakol, Kyrgyzstan, to Orissa, India.
Here are some questions to ponder before the
teleconference:
- What are ways in your own life by which you
might nudge or disturb a system?
- What are examples of leverage points in complex
systems?
- If we can't take a sabbatical, what are other
ways we can get outside of our routine lives and
make a difference?
- How might an organization's view of change in a
Red Pen Company differ from the view in a Blue Pen
Company?
Mr. Schultz is the President of Red Tiger and
Associates Consulting - a consulting firm
specializing in entrepreneurial activity,
innovation, enterprise and community development,
and change leadership. RTA works with
entrepreneurial people who lead and are accountable
for the development and performance of their
enterprises (businesses, organizations, communities,
and social initiatives) and whose enterprises have a
compelling need to develop, change and adapt in
today's complex and volatile marketplace.
If you are unable to join us, or would like to
reconnect with Ron after the OD sessions, you are
invited to contact him by email by clicking the link
