Description: Although W. Edwards Deming died in 1993, the ideas he developed during the last decades of his life have relevance today. This discussion will address current issues of management and organizations, as well as larger issues we face in the twenty-first century, and bring to bear Deming’s ideas about systems, variation, knowledge and its development, and management of people. What issues need to be addressed to create organizations that are sustainable? What ideas will be useful to achieve the degree of innovation that will be required to address organizations’ challenges in this century? What are the responsibilities of managers? We will seek to deepen understanding of Deming’s ideas and relate them to the present and the future.
Target Audience: Managers and technologists who seek to improve their thinking about current issues of management and development and to gain the insights brought by Deming’s ideas.
Organizational Issues: Sustainability at the organizational and national levels, enabling innovation, improving organizational effectiveness, management development.
Objectives: There are three primary objectives of this seminar;
- To deepen attendees’ understanding of Deming’s ideas.
- To bring Deming’s ideas to bear on issues facing the organization now and in the future.
- To enhance attendees’ tools for insight and reflection.
